Commonwealth Bank Series 4th ODI: Australia v India Odds and Betting Preview

ADELAIDE, AUSTRALIA – Australia host India in the fourth One Day International in the Commonwealth Bank Series at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday. Australia will meet India for the second time in this triangular series and when they last met the hosts beat India in the opening game before winning a close encounter with Sri Lanka on Friday. India have only beaten Australia once on their tour Down-Under in a T20 international and the World Champions will want to record another overdue victory today.

Australia are the 8/13 favourites (bet £13 to make £8 profit) for this tie with Betfred and Blue Square in what looks set to be a high scoring encounter on the batsman friendly Adelaide wicket. India are quoted at a standout 6/4 with Ladbrokes to keep the pressure on Australia in the table by recording their second win of the tournament.

Australia have decided to rest Michael Hussey and so Peter Forrest looks set to make his ODI debut in Adelaide. The 26-year old has impressed in the domestic Sheffield Shield competition averaging over 58 runs a game. Australia beat India in their opening game in this series by 65 runs in a rain affected game but were far from their best when they scraped past Sri Lanka in Perth by only five runs. The Kangaroos will hope the experienced Ricky Ponting can find his form in this format of the game after two disappointing games with the bat whilst Xavier Docherty has been the pick of the bowlers at the WACA.

India recorded their first win in the tournament against Sri Lanka on Wednesday and they will hope to test the Australians on a ground where they have had some success in the past.  India’s batting still remains their biggest weakness and they will hope from a stronger performance from a struggling middle order. India have adopted a rotation policy in the ODIs which has seen Sehwag and Gambhir sit out of a game each and it remains to be seen who will miss out on this occasion. MS Dhoni will hope his bowlers can hit their lines and lengths in order to restrict the confident Australians to a low total.

In the Top Australia Batsman betting, three players are all priced up at 4/1 with Paddy Power and BetVictor. This includes David Warner, Michael Clarke and Ricky Ponting. Clarke scored 57 crucial runs in the win over Sri Lanka and he will hope former skipper Ponting can produce a big innings today. Matthew Wade is a 9/2 chance with Boylesports while David Hussey is quoted at 7/1 with Skybet. The new faces in the Australian XI looks set to be Peter Forrest and Mitchell Marsh and the pari are priced up at 8/1 and 12/1 respectively with bet365 to top score for their side today.

Sachin Tendulkar heads the Top India Batsman betting at 7/2 with Blue Square and Stan James and the little master is still in search of his 100th hundred in international cricket. The two Indian openers Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag have been priced up at 4/1 with Sportingbet alongside the youngster Virat Kohli who is the same 4/1 price with Ladbrokes. Kohli has been India’s best performer with the bat since they lifted the World Cup lat year averaging over 53 runs in the 22 games that India have contested. Rohit Sharma is general 6/1 chance to top his side’s run scoring charts today while Suresh Raina and Parthiv Patel are quoted at 7/1 with Stan James.

The opening partnership for both sides have failed to deliver in the series to date but Australia have had a consistent selection at the top of the order and so are the 10/11 favourites with Blue Square in the Highest Opening Partnership betting. India have chopped and changed their opening combination but Sehwag and Gambhir are both due a big innings and they can be backed at 11/10 with bet365 to outscore their opponents.

Play begins at 03.20 GMT on Sunday 12th February and all the action is broadcast live on Sky Sports 2.
