Cricket: KFC Big Bash – Sydney Sixers v Perth Scorchers Odds and Betting Preview
Story by George Coombs on 2012-01-18 00:29:04
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – The second game in the Big Bash on Wednesday comes from Sydney when the Sixers welcome the league leaders Perth Scorchers to the SCG. The Sixers have already secured themselves a place in the semi-finals but will need to beat the tournament’s form side to have any chance of playing in front of their home support in the knock-out phase.
The Perth Scorchers are the 10/11 favourites with Sportingbet and Boylesports while the Sydney Sixers are an even money chance with most firms to win their final game at home in the league.
The Sydney franchise welcome back both Brad Haddin and Mitchell Starc for the visit of the Scorchers following their release from the national set-up. Haddin has had a disappointing Test series with the bat only scoring 33 runs in three innings and he desperately needs to show the national selectors he is able to contribute with bat in hand. The Sixers have won their last two games against Thunder and the Strikers and will bid for a hat-trick of victories in this top of the table clash this evening.
Perth will secure the top spot in the Big Bash League with a win at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Wednesday and they are currently enjoying a five match winning streak. Their chances have been dealt a welcome boost with the return of Shaun Marsh who has been released by Cricket Australia to play in this game. They will however be without another star as opener Herschelle Gibbs has withdrawn with his recurring heel injury. Marsh was in superb form on his last outing for the Sixers blasting 99 not out off 52 balls but failed dismally in the Test series against India, only managing 14 runs in his four innings.
In the Top Sydney Sixers Batsman betting, Brad Haddin and Michael Lumb have both been priced up at 7/2 with Boylesports and Haddin will hope to replicate his 76 run innings in the opening game of the tournament before he left the camp. Moises Henriques and Nic Maddinson are both 9/2 shots with Skybet whilst Steven Smith is a 6/1 chance at bet365.
Shaun Marsh has been installed at the head of the Top Perth Scorchers Batsman market, quoted at a standout 11/4 with Skybet, despite his poor run in the longer format of the game. Marcus North has the Scorchers’ second highest individual score behind Marsh and he is available at 7/2 with bet365 whilst Mitchell Marsh is an industry best price of 5/1 with BetVictor.  Simon Katich and Paul Collingwood are both capable of scoring quick runs down the order and can be backed at 6/1 with Stan James in the Scorchers’ formidable batting line-up.
Mitchell Marsh has belted 11 sixes in the competition to date and he should add to his tally this evening at the SCG. His Perth Scorchers are the 11/8 favourites in the Most Sixes betting with BetVictor and with the fire-power of Shaun Marsh, Marcus North and Paul Collingwood within their ranks this looks a big price. The Sixers are quoted at 5/4 with bet365 while a draw in this market is a general 11/2 chance with most firms.
This match is the second game in a Big Bash double-header and play begins at 08.00 GMT on Wednesday 18th January. Bettors can watch every delivery via bet365’s excellent online streaming service.
