Big Boss 5 has almost been running for two weeks now and already controversy is beginning to surround the house. The show, hosted by Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt, surprised viewers when on it's opening night it introduced just one male contestant into the house.
Until day eight, Shakti Kapoor, who has played the villain in a number of bollywood films such as Raja Babu, was the only male in the house. He has now been joined by actor and model Amar Upadhyay, both of whom have their hands full with twelve woman and one transgender woman for company.
Nihita Biswas was the first contestant to be evicted whilst, female wrestler, Sonika Kaliraman Malik, has left the show due to worries over her pregnancy.
One contestant who has not been received well in the house is the outspoken Pooja Misrra, she has been nominated for eviction in both weeks now, receiving a total of 17 votes over the two weeks. However, whilst she may not be liked in the house, viewers have enjoyed watching her daily fights with other contestants and actor Kamaal Rashid Khan has declared himself a big fan of her. He has tweeted a number of times asking the public not to vote her off.
There are reports that a large amount of betting has taken place on the event, with sources claiming that well over R300 crore has been wagered with the bookies so far. Punters have been sending their bookmakers SMS messages letting them know who they think will win the series as well as betting on other markets such as who will be nominated or evicted.
At the moment Pooja Missra is favourite to win the series, despite her unpopularity within the house, whilst Pooja Bedi has rather longer odds with the bookmakers despite the fact that she is less likely to be nominated by her fellow housemates.
There is still a long way to go in this series, which finishes on the 7th January next year and it remains to be seen whether Pooja Missra will remain a favourite with the public until then. It will also be interesting to see how the house reacts if more men are introduced to the house by the Big Boss organisers.
